My expertise centers on utilizing lived experience to address systemic inequality and foster systems change. I incorporate the perspectives of those who have directly encountered certain experiences or challenges to (1) tap into their unique insights and expertise, (2) create a more comprehensive understanding of root causes and potential solutions, and (3) conduct equity-informed research and evaluation to identify meaningful solutions and drive transformative change within our systems.

Research & Program Evaluation Experience

  • Associate

    Community Science (May 2022 - Present)

    • Develop qualitative analysis process documents, checklists, and tools as company-wide resources to facilitate the seamless adoption of qualitative analysis practices and ensure consistency across projects.

    • Lead in-depth program evaluations, including developing rigorous data collection instruments, conducting interviews and focus groups, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, and developing reports and data visualizations to communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences effectively.

    • Lead teams to analyze qualitative data using ATLAS.ti to identify emerging themes, patterns, and key findings, translating insights into actionable recommendations for improving equity and efficiency of programs and services.

    • Manage communication between the study team and key stakeholders, utilizing trauma-informed approaches to foster a supportive and empathetic environment that prioritizes the well-being and comfort of all participants.

    • Co-create qualitative evaluation and data analysis protocols and facilitate 3-hour training to teach the company new standards.

    • Provide expert consultation on qualitative research design, guiding project teams and clients through the development of research questions, methodologies, and data collection techniques.

  • Research & Evaluation Associate

    Mirror Group, LLC (Sept. 2019 – Dec. 2020)

    • Led team in the design and execution of in-depth evaluations of various programs and initiatives, applying qualitative research methods, including interviews, focus groups, and content analysis.

    • Led team to generate reports and data visualizations outlining the research methodology and findings of process and impact evaluations to promote the use of data to inform policy decisions.

    • Worked with team to facilitate process and impact evaluation workshops and provide technical assistance to the Baltimore Children’s Youth Fund grantees.

    • Worked with local organizations in Southeast DC to create a workforce and career readiness program for low-income African American women that provides livable wages and opportunities for upward mobility.

    • Worked with Urban Institute to develop and facilitate research methods training workshops to build the community advisory board’s capacity to meaningfully contribute to designing, conducting, and reporting research for the East Baltimore Research Project.

    • Analyzed qualitative data using MaxQDA to identify emerging themes, patterns, and key findings, translating insights into actionable recommendations for program improvement.

    • Produced comprehensive evaluation reports, presenting findings and recommendations in clear and compelling formats.

  • Research Assistant

    George Washington Institute of Public Policy (Sept 18 – Dec. 2022)

    • Led the collection and analysis of non-degree credential data to produce national counts of unique credentials offered across four types of credential providers: Post-Secondary Educational Institutions, Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Providers, Non-Academic Providers, and Secondary Schools.

    • Led team in writing and compiling a comprehensive research report on non-degree credentials, effectively coordinating efforts, managing timelines, and ensuring the delivery of well-documented and insightful annual reports (Report Years: 2021 & 2019).

    • Oversaw all conference logistics, including venue selection, contract negotiation, and event budget management for the Non-Degree Credentials Network conference.

    • Submit public comments in response to information collection requests from federal agencies, including the Office of Budget and Management and the Department of Education.

    • Led team in conducting regression analysis on wage index data to identify the impacts of certifications and licenses on veterans.

  • Research Assistant

    Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (June 2019 – Aug. 2019)

    • Successfully led a team in utilizing wage data to conduct comprehensive analyses, identifying the impacts of possessing licenses or certifications among veteran populations.

    • Effectively coordinated research efforts managed data collection, and facilitated data analysis, resulting in valuable insights for evidence-based decision-making and policy recommendations.

    • Conducted a comprehensive and systematic assessment of southeast Michigan community colleges, analyzing the region's availability of manufacturing and production-related education programs.

    • Utilized data-driven insights to develop policy recommendations, fostering informed decision-making for educational program development and regional workforce enhancement.

  • Researcher

    Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions (Nov. 2016 – Present)

    • Manage incentive payments and meticulously maintain accurate participant records for the Black Mens’ Health Study (BMHS), ensuring compliance with protocols and ethical guidelines while fostering positive participant experiences and data integrity.

    • Work with a team to design and implement BMHS, contributing to developing research protocols and data collection tools.

    • Using social-ecological frameworks to conduct literature reviews and synthesized research findings to support research projects and identify knowledge gaps in health disparities research for Black men.

    • Analyze multiple quantitative nationally representative health data sets using STATA data to examine how various factors impact the social determinants of health for Black men.

    • Lead in qualitative data analysis, coding, and thematic identification for BMHS.

    • Contribute to the preparation of research reports, presentations, and academic papers for publication. Journals include the American Journal of Men’s Health and the International Journal Of Environmental Research And Public Health.

  • Project Manager

    Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions (Feb. 2017 – Aug. 2018)

    • Managed a randomized controlled trial evaluating the hypertension management program for mid to late-life African American women in partnership with the American Institutes of Research and a local community-based health center.

    • Contributed to the development of research proposals, facilitated data collection, managed research databases, developed data collection and entry protocols, and performed data quality checks.

    • Collaborated with subject matter experts and external stakeholders to develop comprehensive research methodology and dissemination plans.

    • Coordinated participant recruitment and engagement, optimizing outreach and participant retention rates.

    • Successfully led and managed a team of research assistants in conducting data collection, entry, and analysis, ensuring high-quality research outcomes and timely project deliverables.

  • Conducted a comprehensive survey targeting the Oklahoma City metro population residing in a food desert.

  • Designed and administered the survey to collect data on food preferences, accessibility, and barriers to healthy options.

  • Utilized SPSS software to analyze the survey data, extracting valuable insights to inform intervention strategies.

  • Presented the findings in a detailed report to the executive staff of Buy for Less Corporation, emphasizing key observations and providing actionable recommendations to enhance the selection of healthy options sold by the grocery store chain.

  • Led data collection efforts, compiling, organizing, and cleaning data from administrative records across multiple school years, including student attendance and demographic information.

Community Impact Assessment Project Lead

  • Led a team to develop and administer a community impact assessment survey in the Oklahoma City Metro Area as part of the Affordable Care Act reporting requirements for non-profit hospitals.

  • Conducted literature reviews and synthesized best practices in impact evaluation to inform project design and analysis.

  • Oversaw data collection, ensuring high-quality and reliable data through surveys and secondary sources.

  • Collaborated with project teams to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop logic models to guide evaluation efforts.

  • PhD: Public Policy & Administration

    In 2022, Dr. Danielle R. Gilmore completed her Ph.D. in Public Policy & Administration (concentration: Program Evaluation) from The George Washington University Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Administration (GW TSPPA). Her dissertation was entitled “Examining The Role of Education in Improving Academic and Health Outcomes Among African Americans Populations” (read the full dissertation). At GW, Dr. Gilmore served as chairperson for the TSPPA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and as the TSPPA student representative on the search committee for GW’s Vice Provost of Research. She was also inducted into the Edward Bouchet Honor Society.

  • Master of Public Policy (MPP)

    In 2018, Danielle R. Gilmore received her Master of Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), where she maintained a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). During her time at the BSPH, Danielle served as the Vice President of Communications for the BSPH Student Assembly, where she was responsible for overseeing BSPH communications, including managing email listservs.

  • BS: Community/Public Health

    In 2016, Danielle R. Gilmore received her Bachelor of Science in Community Public Health from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). While at UCO, Danielle held multiple leadership positions including Vice President of the UCO’s National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) and Secretary of the Public Health Club. She was also inducted into the Order of Omega and Eta Sigma Gamma Honor societies.

    In 2021, I was inducted into the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society. In the spirit of Edward Alexander Bouchet—the first African American to earn a doctorate from an American university—the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promotes diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate.

  • Selective Excellence Fellowship

    From 2018 to 2022, I was a Selective Excellence Fellow at the George Washington Institute for Public Policy (GWIPP). GWIPP serves as a university-wide nexus for faculty and graduate students engaging in research on important public policy issues. Current areas of emphasis include state and local fiscal policy, urban and regional economic development, active living research, the role of federal statistics in monitoring U.S. economic activity, housing policy, the economics of retirement, workforce development in the 21st century, and social welfare policy.

  • Bertha “Jackie” McCullum Award

    In 2016, I was awarded the Bertha “Jackie” McCullum Award. The award recognizes the Public Health Major of the Year at The University of Central Oklahoma. It is given to public health students who make a meaningful contribution to the community and field of public health.

  • Outstanding Undergraduate of the Year

    In 2016, I was awarded Public Health Major of the Year from my undergraduate university, The University of Central Oklahoma. This award is given to public health students who make a meaningful contribution to the field of public health and give back to their community via volunteering and mentoring.

  • Eta Sigma Gamma Honor Society

    In 2015, I was inducted into the Eta Sigma Gamma Health Education Honorary Society. Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG), the national honorary for health education, was established on the campus of Ball State University in 1967. ESG has a rich history of serving students and the profession through teaching, service, and research and has grown to include over eighty chapters throughout the United States. ESG also promotes discipline by elevating the standards, ideals, competence, and ethics of professionally prepared men and women in Health Education.
